From Isaac’s Miracle Birth to Stage 4 Lung Cancer: Help Us Walk Through The Valley On August 5th, Matt & Ellie Marooney’s beautiful baby Isaac Abram Marooney was born at 36 weeks—a perfect miracle whose name means “He Laughs” and “Exalted Father.” Despite a knotted umbilical cord wrapped twice around his neck, God’s perfect timing ensured his health and safety. Isaac is thriving in the NICU and should be discharged soon, bringing joy to their family of 11. But less than 24 hours after his birth, their world turned upside down. Ellie was rushed into emergency spinal surgery to remove a 3cm tumor on her spine, so deteriorated it risked paralyzing collapse. Led by skilled surgeon Dr. Jesse Bible, what was planned as a three-hour procedure became a grueling nine-hour ordeal. The tumor had eroded her vertebrae and the lining of one lung, requiring a chest tube and ventilator to stabilize a small hole in her lung. Part of her rib cage was removed to access and safely extract 90% of the spinal mass. An MRI also revealed a second 5cm mass in her lung. They have diagnosed Ellie with Stage 4 lung cancer that spread to her spine, and possibly other areas as well. The news has left them in shock, yet they lean into their faith like never before. Ellie felt the Lord speak Psalm 23 to her spirit: “Yea, though you walk through the valley of the shadow of death, you will fear no evil, for I am with you.” The word “THROUGH” resonated deeply—They believe God will carry them through this, radiant and victorious, humbly dependent on Him. They believe He can use friends, family, and brothers and sisters in Christ to meet those needs. The road ahead is daunting—medical bills, ongoing treatments, transportation, food, lodging, and a fight for Ellie’s literal life weigh heavily. Your support can ease this burden: covering hospital costs (estimated at several hundreds of thousands of dollars), medications, and living expenses as Ellie heals and recovers, and they care for their youngest seven children. Matt & Ellie don’t understand why this is happening, but they know Jesus is Lord. His love sustains them.
